Total Team Communication for the Creative Use of Tooth- and Gingival-Colored Porcelains: Treatment Planning, Provisionalization, and Placement
Abstract: In recent years, the literature increasingly cites the importance of patient involvement in the restorative processes so that clinicians and laboratory technicians can understand his or her desires and expectations before beginning irreversible therapy. Mutual respect for the knowledge, desires, and skills that each dental team participant can share helps to form the basis for successful interactions and predictable clinical, functional, and esthetic restorative outcomes. This article presents a case requiring incorporation of smile design concepts and prudent material selection in order to mask severely discolored underlying tooth structure (ie, tetracycline staining and dark banding).
